Iconic St. Paul in Pilsen to The art Center of my Dreams…
Some wedding days just have it — that current of good energy that runs through every hour, from the first look to the last dance. This one, set against the gothic architecture of Pilsen and the industrial-chic backdrop of Bridgeport, was exactly that kind of day.
The Ceremony: St. Paul Catholic Church
The couple said "I do" at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pilsen — a stunning German Gothic church built by parishioners in 1899, known for its soaring stone arches, Venetian mosaics, and glowing stained glass. It's the kind of space that makes every guest look up the moment they walk in.
And tucked in the basement of that same church is one of Chicago's best-kept secrets: Holy Grounds, a coffee shop run by local students, hidden below the sanctuary. Guests… and myself obviously… grabbing a coffee before the ceremony while surrounded by gothic architecture is about as iconic as a wedding morning gets — a detail that made this Wedding Mass feel completely one-of-a-kind.
The Reception: Bridgeport Art Center
From there, the celebration moved to the Bridgeport Art Center, a historic 1911 building turned multi-disciplinary art space, known for its exposed brick, dramatic skyline views, and creative energy. Between the industrial architecture, the on-site art galleries and studios, and the natural light pouring through the windows, it's a reception venue that doubles as a work of art in itself. Also, there was a pottery studio inside! We stole the wedding party ducked into a pottery studio for photos, and the light in that space was nothing short of incredible. Soft, natural, and warm, it gave every shot an effortless, editorial feel — proof that some of the best wedding photo locations aren't the obvious ones.
The Real Magic: The People
Venues and light make for beautiful photos, but what made this day unforgettable was the couple and their bridal party. Their energy carried the whole afternoon — genuine, joyful, and completely present with each other. It's a good reminder that the most gorgeous backdrop in Chicago still can't outshine a couple who's simply thrilled to be marrying their best friend, surrounded by people who love them. A gothic church, a hidden coffee shop, a sunlit pottery studio, and an art-filled industrial loft — this downtown Chicago wedding pulled together some of the city's most unexpected and beautiful spaces into one incredible day.
